Assessment of groundwater contamination and the role of hydraulic fracturing operation in Weld County, USA

<p>In shale gas-producing countries, soil, and groundwater contamination due to surface spills associated with hydraulic fracturing operations is one of the most worrying problems that arise, since its elimination not easy or cheap carry out, effects persist for many years. Thus, this study identifies environmental health risks extraction unconventional gas. The was carried out based on available data obtained from Colorado Oil Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) regarding pollution have occurred in Weld County where fracking has become a common practice. Data sources related were analyzed. A range parameters characterize quality water investigated determine compared international standards evaluate suitability different utilizations. result showed suitable human consumption nor irrigation purposes. shows there are 33 bodies, 17 wetlands, 23 livestock, 31 occupied building threatened pollution. also indicated about 80 % cases equipment failures. It can be concluded important cause therefore potential soil failure. main causes contamination, yet contribution agricultural activities spread should neglected.</p>
